Sunny Days On The Slopes, UV Protection All Day Every Day

Sun filled days on the slopes - Enjoy but protect your skin from the UV rays!

If your child is going on an Easter School Trip they will be getting ready. Packing everything they can, ski socks, goggles, helmets, iPods, iPhone, you name it they will have it but will you remember sun screen? It's always packed for a summer holiday but skiing...it's often missed of the packing list.

It’s a great time of the season to have some fun on the warm slopes with clear blue sky's but be warned the sun can be very strong and it’s easy to get burnt!

It's important to take extra steps to keep your skin safe on the mountain. At high altitudes, not only are you closer to the sun, but the atmosphere is thinner putting you at greater risk for sunburn. Also, the sun is reflected by the snow bouncing UV rays to all areas.

Conditions on the slopes can change quickly and often when you set out it's cloudy only to find when you go higher the sky's are clear so always carry sun cream with you. You don't want to waste ski time heading back down to grab some put it on before you leave for the day and carry a small tube with you.

Add it to you check list as you leave for the day, goggles, gloves, helmet, sun glasses, neck tube, SUN PROTECTION

Quote : Perry Robins, MD, President, The Skin Cancer Foundation
"It's easy to associate winter with frostbite and windburn, but most people are unaware that UV rays can be every bit as damaging on the slopes as on the beach. It's important to take proper precautions on the slope every day"

FACT
Higher altitude means increased risk of sun-induced skin damage, since UV radiation exposure increases 4 to 5 percent with every 1,000 feet above sea level. At an altitude of 9,000 to 10,000 feet, UV radiation may be 35 to 45 percent more intense than at sea level. In addition, snow reflects up to 80 percent of the UV light from the sun, meaning that you are often hit by the same rays twice. This only increases the risk for damage.

Don't Forget!
Make sure you pack them off with Sun screen and Lip balm in their case. It doesn't cost much and takes a second to apply, well worth it for protection from the harmful rays on the mountains. You wouldn't let them lay in the sun all day at the beach with out protection so apply the same rule on the slopes.

It's easy to forget that you can get sun burnt in the snow, but just take a look at all the instructors "Goggle Eyes"! You have seen them at Apres Ski partying with BIG white patches around the eyes.

Skiweb recommends you use factor 30 plus every day on the slopes.

Skiweb - Tips For School Ski Trips

Is your child going on a School Ski Tip? Wondering what they need to take besides the obvious ski pants and jacket? Skiweb can point you in the right direction with a few ideas.

They don't need a lot but something to consider is how cold they can get. If they are skiing for the first time and learning to ski in a group there tends to be a bit of hanging around, until they get to grips with the basics.

It's a fact, if you keep warm and dry a ski day will be a lot more fun. Even the most skilled skiers need to keep dry and warm. Some days you may be lucky enough to have beautiful blue sky and sunshine, but it can still be chilly.

Sub 32 Specialise in supplying schools throughout the UK with a complete hire service. Why buy expensive clothing when you can hire snow jackets, pants and helmets. It makes sense to hire before you buy. Children grow quickly and this years kit may not fit next year! The team at Sub 32 have a lot of experience and will help you select what's best for your child.

Hot Hands Instant Hand Warmers  As soon as you open the packet they start to heat up. Pop into gloves for heat all day long.

Toastie Toes Feet Warmers  Stick to the bottom of the sock and give heat direct to the toes, just the ticket for inside ski boots.

All children will have to wear a snow helmet. A Shellaclava will keep them warm and the silk head cover helps with helmet hygiene.

A good pair of Ski Gloves is a must. They will be wearing these all day every day. It may be a good idea to get two pairs so they always have a dry pair each morning. Kids being kids they won't be able to resist having a few snowball fights!
Ski Socks should have a snug fit and be comfortable. Make sure they have enough pairs for the week. Feet need to be healthy for a week of skiing.

Get a good pair of Ski Goggles, with a high UV rating and anti fog. There are some great new styles in great colours. You don't need to spend lots of cash just make sure they have the basics.

A great extra that they will thank you for is a Ski Carrier. Make sure its one that goes over the shoulder so they can walk safely in the ski boots and have their hands to help them balance. It can be hard trying to get to grips with walking in ski boots and trying to walk carrying skis and poles is not easy!

One last thing a good Base Layer Set. The key to having fun is keeping warm! Vest & leggings keep you warm but allow movement.

This could be the first time they have been away on their own so they need to have their cases packed full of things to make life easy on the slopes. These are just a few ski accessories that we think will help them enjoy their time on the slopes.

What ever happens they are sure to have a great time with their friends, a ski holiday is a great experience. Parent's relax, they will be fine and are sure to have the time of their lives!
